- Public reaction mixed as plans to further simplify Television guides reach early implementation stage.
- Representatives of UK Television service providers set to enforce changes led by board chairman James Halfpenny.
Controversial changes to simplify programme names have taken their first steps to enforcement as multiple shows chose to rebrand themselves early overnight, chairman Halfpenny was quick to defend the enforcement described as ‘draconian’ by opposition groups in a statement,
“Although we appreciate the delicacy of the changes these are in response to our customer bases feelings towards modern electronic program guides, you simply cannot expect people to go through the arduous task of pressing a button for further information.”
“After a long study of programs already using this naming format the board came to the decision that whilst the programmes were indeed needlessly egotistical, and in almost 98% of cases shit, the efficiency was undeniable and therefore we stand by the decison to enforce these changes.”
One show firmly in the spotlight is the BBCs hugely popular ‘Jeremy Clarksons occasional car programme‘ after a failed appeal BBC spokespersons lambasted the enforced change as utterly ridiculous “not only is this title longer than the original, it completely ruins the brand and long heritage of the series, to suggest the original title could be misinterpreted as advocating drug usage is madness. We’ve had to change the opening titles to reflect the rebrand, so now it’s just Clarkson mincing about a bit next to an old Sierra in what appears to be a jumble sale” BBC critics were quick to point out that this is generally an accurate reflection of the show.
Part of the public consultation was 32 year old Lisa-Marie Smith from Mansfield who was full of praise for the changes, “I like these changes and I like the Jeremy Kyle show, cos it’s a show with Jeremy Kyle in it, innit.“
The early implementation however has been far from smooth with the vast majority, executives faced fierce backlash over last nights Trevor McDonalds news after the presenter unwittingly spent the entire show detailing increasingly calamatous efforts to apprehend a strangely dressed mans nationwide hamburger crime spree.
